Today was a big ride. I wanted to put in a 50 mile ride. It's cloudy and in the 50's. Winds from the North West. I decided to add a Buffalo Run to make up for the miles. I wore just enough to stay warm. I was a bit cold for the first 30 minutes. I put sheet of newspaper under my jersey to help. Glad that I did. The legs felt pretty good to start. I made it to the end of OTR in good average time. The Volcano climb was mostly moderate tempo and a bit of climbing warmup. The Banducci Wall had minimal traffic mitigation, so I was able to concentrate on the task at hand. More of the same to the summit of Banducci. When I made it to the summit, I took a few moments to recover and then headed down the mountain. There was no traffic behind, so I was able to concentrate easier. From there,m it was the trek to SS. Uneventful, for the better. After making it to the entrance, I took a few moments to stretch before the backend climb. The descent into town was a treat. I put in a sprint while in the hooks. The technique is feeling better. I stopped at the local park for a quick bio and then got back on the road. I zipped through SS and headed back on the farmlands. I did moderate tempo most of the way. I had a modest tailwind to aid me. The CV climb went as usual. no heroics doing moderate tempo. After reaching the summit, I pulled over to feed a Clif Bar. From there, I made my way to Route 202. the body was responding well. Route 202 had some traffic mitigation, but I made it safely to OTR. The descent off OTR was fun and games. I pushed over Mariposa and made my way back to the mail locker. I swapped bottles, put on my arm coolers under my arm warmers for extra warmth. Glad I made that decision. Shortly after, I got back on the road and headed to the summit of the descent. There was a headwind at this point. I cruised the descent, very enjoyable allowing the legs to recover. I pulled over to take videos/photos of the local train. I stopped once to bio. After reaching the base, I headed back without delay. The morale felt good, knowing this was the last obstacle of the day. I kept the tempo steady. I counted the landmarks as they passed. I stopped once at the top of the Loop Monument. I was feeling signs of bonking, so I fed another Clif Bar. Glad I did that. From there, I completed the remainder of the climb. The legs felt good, with minimal soreness. After cresting the summit, I took a few moments to recover and then headed back down to the mail lockers. When I got there, I grabbed my belongings and headed back home. I shut it down at the top of Weston. I was hoping to see 50 Miles on the odometer, but it topped out at around 49.8. Concentration was good. Minimal lapses and almost no gremlins. Balance and form was good. Ailments were minimal. I had some knee soreness when I reached SS. I let up and used easier gears while stretching now and again. It subsided and never escalated. Nutrition was good. I fed two Clif bars and most of my sport drinks with about a bottle's worth of water. Gear worked flawless. Other notes, I saw one or two cyclists today. There were some visitors at the Loop Monument.
