I got up after my morning nap and checked the weather report. It was 50 degrees. Good enough to get out. The sky was partly cloudy, but mostly sunny. I decided to go to OTR and determine where to go from there. I wore the standard kit with my new long sleeve thermal jersey and thick base layer. It's the first time using the new Speedplay cleats. The legs felt pretty good to start. I forgot to start the GPS timer. So, I lost about a mile or so of metrics. The power meter was not detected. I have to install a new battery. I made it to the summit of OTR in average time (guessing). I decided to go up the Alpine Forest. The Banducci Wall climb had some traffic mitigation. I was a bit more relaxed when I made it to Arosa. I settled into a tempo. I had a few things going on. The cleat position, the saddle height and pitch, the new bib shorts. I think I'm on the right track. Some ailments I had was a some right foot soreness near the ball of the foot. Indicative of a cleat position issue. I had some mild right calf soreness. Likely related to saddle height and cleat position. I was exhibiting some soreness between the sit bones towards the tailbone. Perhaps related to the saddle tilt. The Arosa climb went quick. The new Garmin Forerunner 55 watch seemed to be reading my HR accurately. No dropouts. The backside of the Alpine Forest had some dangerous road conditions. Ice and snow here and there. I was having to ride with one foot down. Suffice it to say, I made it through in one piece, no spills. I headed to the top of Banducci and took a few moments rest when I reached the summit. I let traffic by and then headed back down the mountain. The wind picked up, so I was cautious. Especially descending off the Banducci Wall. After making my way back to OTR, it was mostly fun and games. I pushed over Mariposa, and shut it down afte reaching the top of Weston. Concentration was good. The morale was good. I was happy to get out. Balance and form was good. The cleat heel in / out seems to be near ideal. I think I have to adjust the heel out on the left shoe as I was occasionally rubbing the left crank with the heel of the shoe. Nutrition was good. Perhaps a hint of hunger. The sport drink got me through. So, no feeding. I drank most of it, but no water. Gear worked flawless. Other notes, no cyclists today. The motorists were friendly.
