It was a great day to get out. It’s sunny, blue skies, about 50 degrees. Winds from the North West. Perfect for a ride to Keene n back. I wore arms, knees, head cap, thin base layer and my jacket. I was sufficiently warm. It was a bit chilly in the face for the first 5 minutes, but never got any worse. I made it to the top of the descent in good average time. I cruised the downhill. I put in two moderate digs over the risers. I didn't bother checking my time at the base, but the metrics show 31 minutes. So, an average time to the bottom. After making it to the base, I turned around and headed back without delay. (Although, I did unzip my jersey, that took all but 5 seconds before commencing the ascent). The legs felt descent. Not super, but lively enough. The tailwind was a pleasure to have. I was counting off the land marks. I was trying not to get too ahead of myself. The climb went fast. I was focused. After making it passed the last dip, the summit got closer and closer at a descent rate. I kept my momentum going over the top. I was near max when I finished the climb. After making it to the summit, I took a few moments to recover, zipped up the jersey and jacket and made my way back home. I shut it down at the top of Weston. Concentration was good. Minimal lapses or gremlins. Balance and form was good. Ailments were minimal. The right calf was hinting on soreness in the last mile or two. I backed off, alternated pedaling style, etc. That helped it subside. My right outer knee was a bit sore at the summit. I gave it a good shake, pedaled very easy as I was making my way back. The pain went away by the time I reached Weston. Nutrition was good. No hunger signs. I went through most of my sport drink. I had half of a banana and some grapes before departing. That seemed to stave off the hunger. Gear worked flawless. Other notes, no cyclists. There was a friendly motor cyclist, some people at the Loop Monument, and some Fire Fighters trimming trees near the base of Keene.
