Day 28
Day 29 rain/zero day with Dave and Pam in Williamsburg
Another very nice day to ride. Except for a continuing headwind.
Beautiful back roads mostly into Williamsburg.
The ferry crossing was short and local e bikers were also aboard.
Chris had been warning me about turtles, and until I was attacked by one I hardly believed him. Now I keep my turtle whistle handy. Apparently it's turtles all the way down in the swamp lands of the surrounding area.
Local history signs everywhere, this one near a snack gas station that seemed closed in appearance, but was actually very busy with people in the parking lot and in and out of the building.
Arrived at our hosts David and Pam's house late afternoon. Out to dinner and back later so later getting this update out.
Fortunate they are willing to listen to our tales in exchange for two nights room. Saturday will be a down day due to some rain and a rest from the long day Thursday. A big thank you to Dave and Pam. This sort of thing is what bike touring can be at it's best.
(NC route 17 can be what it's about at it's worst)
Caught up with Dave and Pam on their running, Pam's job and Dave's retirement, and their many moves, their kids, and the travel van Dave built out in the driveway.
Sunday to Richmond, along an all dedicated ped/bike trail the whole 50ish miles except at the start and end to lodging.
Day 29 Down day:
No official progress on the route today.
Not even a bike ride today.
A badly gunked up jockey pulley on my rear derailleur was cleaned up to silence a loud squeak it was making. Chain inspected and approved and the drive train seems sound to finish to the job.
Great time visiting with friends and more good food. Though it rained as expected and even lightning stormed around dinner time. Not a day to ride, or do much as tourists. Nice walk around town, and though campus though today, and yesterday evening after dinner.
Setting the clocks ahead will happen automagically since all our clocks are GPS driven.
Having taken today (Saturday) off, we missed a chance encounter to meet up with Pat and Mark who happened to be in Richmond Saturday... But they likely will be gone before we arrive Sunday.
Sunday to Richmond and somewhere beyond.
Bike Shop: Dave's garage.
Breakfast: not much at the hotel, went next-door to McDonalds. Also went to O'reilly's auto for a gator-aid.
Lunch: 2nd Day walked with Dave to: Precarious Beer Project in shopping district near Historic district.
Stopped at a Wawa to pick up gator-aide on the way back.
Hotel: Dave & Pam's
Dinner: 1st night The Hounds Tale, local favorite of Dave and Pam
2nd night Dave and Pam cooked for us! great meal, with some potatoes for Pam's run the next day.

Best format for turn by turn directions on Edge 500, 510. Will provide true turn by turn navigation on Edge 800, 810, 1000, Touring including custom cue entries. Great for training when we release those features. Not currently optimal for Virtual Partner.
Useful for uploading your activity to another service, keeping records on your own computer etc.
Useful for any GPS unit. Contains no cuesheet entries, only track information (breadcrumb trail). Will provide turn by turn directions (true navigation) on the Edge 705/800/810/1000/Touring, but will not have any custom cues. Works great for Mio Cyclo. Find GPS specific help in our help system.
Estimated Time shows a prediction of how long it would take you to ride a given route. This number is based on your recent riding history, and represents an estimate of moving time. Each time you upload a new ride, your Estimated Time profile will adjust to reflect your most recent riding. Only rides exceeding 10 miles (16 km) will affect these estimates.
