It’s a great day to get out. It’s a bit cold, but nothing a winter kit couldn't mitigate. The temperature is around 45 degrees. Winds from the North West. Perfect for a day to Keene. The legs were a bit sore to start. In about 5 minutes, they were feeling much better. I made it to the summit of the descent in good average time. The descent was mostly cruising. I put in two modest digs over the risers. More like practicing out of the saddle efforts. I made it to the base under 30 minutes (or so). I spared no time and headed back up the mountain. The legs were good. Body felt good. As usual, I counted off the land marks. The music helped and I had a few things to think about. The morale was good. I was doing in and out of the saddle efforts. After the first and second dips, I was feeling better and better in concentration. My right knee was exhibiting soreness around this time, but didn't escalate and eventually went away. It was mitigated by changing the cadence while in and out of the saddle and focusing on good form. I kept the tempo no less than moderate for the last quarter mile or so to the summit. After reaching the summit, I eased up to recover, zipped up the jersey and jacket and headed back home. I shut it down after reaching the top of Weston.
Concentration was good. Mom is undergoing a "procedure" today. So, she was in the back of my mind. Mostly a good thing. Balance and form was good. Ailments, some quad soreness in the first 2 or 3 minutes that subsided and went away. The right knee became slightly sore in the last half of the ride. As mentioned, mitigated by focusing on form while alternating in and out of the saddle. The hands became numb while doing extended or high tempo out of the saddle efforts. Nutrition was good. No hunger signs. I went through most of my sport drink. Other notes, no cyclists to be seen today. There as a train on its way up as I was nearing Keene. It comprised of just a cart or two and the locomotives. A rarity.
