It's been snowing for the past two days. It stopped early this morning, but the roads were not favorable for a ride. So, Watopia it was. I setup the bike last night, so getting things together was quick. The legs felt good right from the start. I was sufficiently warmed up by the time I reached the base of the climb. A few minutes into the climb, the metrics kept dropping out. So, I waited till I got to the bridge to connect the Ant+ dongle to the computer. That fixed the problem, but I lost about 1 to 2 minutes of time. (The clock didn't stop while I was fixing things). Nevertheless, I got back on the bike and back to business. I was able to hold 3 W/kg, plus or minus for most of the climb. I felt good. A bit dismayed that I lost time to the faulty hardware. I was near my Halo Replay, but lost reach from connectivity issue. I put it out of my mind as best I could. The landmarks went quick. The music helped. I was calculating the time to the tunnel. I made it there in about 23 minutes or so. Exiting around 25 minutes. My calculations were accurate. All the while, I was thinking about what my time would have been and if the timer continued during the hardware fix. After making it to the summit, I stopped pedaling to see if the timer stops or continues. The clock continued. So, I posted a 33 minute time. Adjusted for the mechanical, it was equal to about 31 minutes or so. The bonus climb went as usual. The grind to the summit. No heroics. After reaching the KQOM summit, eased up, recovered and headed back to town. I was calculating the remaining distances. It kept my mind occupied. I put in a solid dig through the sprint segment. I finished 8th over all. I think there were over 400 participants. There was another rider that I out sprinted. Definitely put me to my limit. The legs and knees cooperated. I was able to push 100%. After making it to the finish, I commenced the cool down phase. That took a few minutes. I waited till the HR went down to 112BPM and hopped off.
Concentration was good. A bit upset about the hardware mechanical, but was able to keep my cool. Balance and form was good. The form was especially good. Ailments were minimal. The usual hand numbness while out of the saddle for extended periods. Nutrition was good. No hunger signs. I went through most of my sport drink, no water. Gear worked flawlessly after fixing the mechanical. Other notes, I think there were about 6000+ riders on the Watopia map. I'm getting better at mounting and dismounting the bike from the trainer.
