The weather was warm today. A little bit more than the previous ride. I got a good warm up to the top of the descent. I pretty much cruised the descent. I experimented with a tuck position and on the hoods while pedaling. Turns out that, in the headwind that I was going into, a tuck position is more efficient. Nevertheless, I stayed on the hoods to get a better warmup. The return trip started somewhat modest. I then lifted the pace as I continued on the ascent. I did one good dig over the loop monument. From there I did good steady tempo. I felt well concentrated for most of the ride, very few lapses. I worked a lot on my leg balance. It was a little shady today. I didn't have many ailments, only my right hand numbness. That was pretty much it. As I finished the ascent, I rested for about 1 minute and took some fluids. Before the beginning of the ride, I wanted to see if I could do 40mph on the way back down to Weston. I was skeptical at first. After going about 500 yards, I felt pretty good. So today, I got in the hooks instead of the hoods. I got up to 39mph according to my gps. The metrics on Ridewithgps is off. I felt a bit of imbalance as I was progressing the second undulation. After that I shut it down. Other notes, I changed my right cleat a bit, to see if an outer position would help. I couldn't tell much difference on this ride. Bike gear is working fawless. I reseated the wheels at the bottom of Keene, and that got rid of some squeeks that I was hearing on the way down. I checked my smart phone at the top and bottom of the climb. Better reception at the base. But worse than most of Tehachapi.
