Today was sunny, a bit on the cool side. Winds were favorable. Perfect for a day to go to SS. I tried to get out as early as I could. I ended up departing around 10AM. The legs felt ok to start. I am now two days away from a colonoscopy, so my diet has changed slightly. I actually felt ok. No light headedness sensations. I wore the usual spring kit. No jacket. I made it to the top of OTR in good average time. The Banducci Wall had some traffic mitigation, so I was on high alert. The traffic was more or less the same to the summit. After reaching the summit, I pulled over to recover. I checked my GoPro battery, let traffic by, hydrated a bit and headed down the mountain. The descent was mostly safe. The wind was headed North East and wasn’t too turbulent. From there was the trek through the farmlands. I stopped once to take photos of the spring flowers that have blossomed. I made my way around the back side of SS and headed into town. I put in a good sprint on the downhill. I reached over 40 MPH in the tuck. I decided not to stop at the local park, but to wait till I reached the porta’s at Pellisier. I reached the tunnel in about 1:08-ish hours. I zipped through town and hopped back on Banducci for the return. The flatlands was mostly patient tempo. I tried to keep my attention focused while paying attention of the surroundings. As planned, I stopped at the porta’s for a quick bio and then got back on the road. I made it to Boss Hogs in about 1:31 hours. So, I gave up about three minutes from SS. Not too bad. The last climb went as planned. I kept the tempo steady. It took few minutes for the climbing legs to settle in. I kept the tempo going over the top. After reaching the summit, I was able to recover a bit. Route 202 had some traffic mitigation. I was pushing over 30 MPH to get to the intersection. The descent off OTR was mostly fun and games. I pushed over Mariposa and made my way back home. I shut it down at the top of Weston.
Concentration was pretty good. A bit impatient today. Balance and form was good. Ailments were minimal. Perhaps some mild hand soreness. The knees were good. Nutrition was good. I was surprised that I didn’t have to feed. I went through half my Gatorade and some water. Gear worked flawlessly. I think I will lower the saddle by about half an inch or so. It felt high to start. Other notes, there were no cyclists today.
