I got out at noon today. The weather was cooler than the previous ride. Winds from the north. I went with Roger, we soft-pedaled to the top the descent. Even still, the wind made it feel 2x the gradient. Suffice it to say, we got warmed up fast! We did the usual group to Keene Loop Monument. No heroics. After regrouping, we commenced the descent. Roger turned around that the water tank. I went all the way to the base. I was feeling good at this point. No signs of ailments. The ascent was more of the same. My body felt responsive and I had minimal signs of cramping. The only ailment I felt was my right hand numbness. Making a fist and relaxing worked great. I did good tempo up the climb, always thinking, if I'd catch Roger on the ascent. I thought there would be no way. I did a modest dig over the Loop Monument. Kept my momentum for the remainder of the ride. Just as I was about to reach the yellow gate (at the top of the climb), I saw Roger. So I dropped the gear one cog and accelerated till I caught him. I gave him a boost from the back. I don't think it did much though. lol. As I commenced the last descent to home, I was eager to hit 40mph. I was poised for the possibility as I was nearing the first roller. Unfortunately, I was cut off by a truck. I had to slow about 10mph and get my momentum again. I ended up doing about 38+ MPH. My concentration was good today, I was able to read my body to perfection. My balance is getting better, much better today. The gear is working great, still have to buy a new chain and cassette. Hopefully this week.
