Today was an unusual ride. It snowed the other day, so I wasn't able to get out until today. I did an indoor trainer session for about 30 minutes. Today, the weather was in the 40's, I wore knees, arms, 1 base layer, jacket, cap, face mask, full gloves. Pretty much everything. My intention was to go to Keene n Back. I thought the ice and snow would have thawed by now. I was wrong. I was able to make it to the top of Woodford-Teha. Rd. I started my descent and it became apparent that the road was unridable about a quarter mile down. There was also a Road Closed sign at the top. I was able to take a panoramic photo similar to my current desktop photo. This one being during the near winter months makes for a good comparison. After turning around and making my way back, I decided to head out to Banducci and see how the roads were over there. I was able to make it as far as the Banducci summit. From there, I decided to head back home. I also took a panoramic photo at the summit. There was ice on the road in certain places so I was inching my way down the mountain. My legs felt good today. I was able to reach upper 160bpms, to my surprise. I made a dig over the Banducci wall because there was a car behind and I had nowhere to go since the sides of the roads were icy. I think I reached around 167-168 at that point. I felt real good for the remainder of the ascent. Partially due to the tailwind at that point. Concentration was pretty good considering I had lab today which shifted my schedule a bit. My mind was a bit dodgy in the morning, so the ride went well considering. My leg balance felt good today, it was right on the money. Very little adjustments. I didn't have any ailements, although my lower legs were a bit cold from the water spraying up from the road. It was only for a little while and the water dried up, so it wasn't that bad. Other notes, I hit the deck as I was just about to reach the bottom of Weston. I road over an ice patch and put my foot down. I ended up tumbling to the side. No injuries or bike damage, just bit of embarrassment. There was word of a train derailment today, I was wondering if I was going to see it today as I was planning on going to Keene and the report said the incident happened about 4 miles west of Tehachapi. Will have to see on the next time down there.
