It was another one of those, I don’t want to get out of bed today. But, of course, I did. I couldn’t let the good weather pass me by. The temperature was in the low 60’s. Winds from the South East, so not favorable for today’s ride. Nonetheless, I decided to go to Keene anyway. I wore arms, knees, head cap, thick base layer and newspaper in the jersey. It turned out to be the perfect combination. I made it to the summit of the descent in good average time. I cruised the downhill. I was assisted by a tailwind, so I was having to dump speed on the bends. I put in two strong digs on the risers. I made it to the base in about 23 minutes. So good time, to be expected given the wind conditions. When I reached the base, I stopped to remove the newspaper in my jersey. Shortly after, I got back on the road and commenced the climb. I decided to stop once to bio. From there it was non-stop. But, of course, I forgot to start the GoPro camera, so no footage after this point. There wasn’t anything special about the return, so no biggy. The landmarks went by. The wind was testing my patience. I was able to get into the zone by keeping my mind distracted. I was doing the numbers after passing the last dip. I was withing a one to two minutes off my estimation. After reaching the summit, I took a few moments to recover on the bike and then headed back home. I was going into a headwind on the descent to home. I was wondering if I went faster on the start of the ride. I shut it down at the top of Weston.
Concentration was good for the most part. I was bit preoccupied about my new driver’s license and how my photo will show up. Will my eyes be half open, those kind to things. I was able to reel it in, after the Keene climb began. No gremlins worth mentioning. Balance and form was good. Ailments were minimal. My hands were numb as I was a few minutes from cresting the summit. Sitting and shaking them fixed that problem. Nutrition was good. I drank half my sport drink, no water. Gear worked flawlessly. Other notes, no cyclists today. Although, there was a friendly motorcyclist.
