Today's weather was cold. In the low 40's and winds from the north. I decided against wearing a jacket, and it proved to be comfortable without it. I wore 3 base layers (1 of which was a long sleeve jersety), arms, knees, cap, double socks. My legs felt pretty good today. The overall time seems to be contrary that. It was the weather conditions that just didn't allow for a fast ride. It was foggy in the morning, and after I finished taking my nap, the fog had mostly dissipated. It was safe enough for the ride. I did good time to the top of Banducci and being cautious on the descent. I definitely had a headwind on the flatlands towards SS. The weather got interesting over there. Apparently there was some fog that had yet to dissipate. I couldn't tell which direction is was going. Nevertheless, it turned out that it lingered for just a few minutes. By the time I reached the SS tunnel I was through the fog and made it there in about an hour. After making it through SS, the wind wasn't quite as strong of a tailwind as I had anticipated. I turned out to be a bit turbulent through the farm lands. It just didn't feel like I had a good tailwind for more than 5 to 10 minutes at a time. I made it to Boss Hogs in about 1 hour. So, I did moderate tempo through OTR and up Banducci, more of the same through the farmlands and through SS. On the way back, I think I pushed the pace a bit, at times. But, the turbulent wind was discouraging, so I didn't want to risk excess fatigue. I got one dig in over the summit of CVR. And from there, I kept the pace moderate, but never higher than good tempo. Ailments... pretty much, none. I think my back was sore for no more than a few moments, as was my right calf. Not worth mentioning really. Concentration was good, I had some lapses here and there, but was able to real it in and keep it dialed. So, for the most part, I was in or around the zone. Balance was so so, I think better on the climbs the flats. Gear is working flawless. I forgot to turn on the camera at the summit of Banducci. I noticed it when I was at the base of the descent. I turned the camera on and started the footage without getting a visual on the setting. Hopefully it was set right because the SS climb proved to be very interesting in atmosphere. Other notes, on my way out, at the end of OTR, there were two cars. One approaching, and the other behind. On top of that, I was at the last riser. So, I could see the oncoming car before the one behind me could. I waved off the car behind me. Probably missing a close call than anything, but the car behind me was appreciative after waving them through.
