These are the weeks where the weather is just perfect. Just fantastic weather today. It was in the 70's, a nice breeze from the north. Perfect for the Tour de Teh. ride. I got out a bit late, but the weather held up. Out the door, my legs were a bit heavy. They stayed heavy until I reached the end of OTR. going up Banducci, I felt good, and so was the case to the top of the climb. As typical, there was a strong headwind on the way out to SS. After the descent, I picked up the pace and did good tempo all the way to the summit of SS. I was gasping when I reached the top. I was able to recover just as quick and commence the ride. I made the tunnel in under 1 hour, and out of SS in under 1:04hrs. The wind was mostly from the west, so I felt the tailwind mostly on the east bound legs. My legs were with me for the better part of the ride. I was able to handle what I was dishing out. The only real ailment was my lower back, as I was doing high tempo on the last half of the ride. I took a breather just as I crossed the intersection before the last climb up CVR. Again my legs felt good and I concentrated on my breathing and making sure I didn't blow up. My concentration was spot on for most of the ride. Balance was also good. There were more than a few moments where I felt spot on. My gear is working well, I oiled the chain before leaving, but didn't get a chance to tighten the bolts. Other notes, as I was about to crest the last climb, I looked back and saw a farming tractor on my tail about 200-300 yards back. It motivated me to pick up the pace and hammer it over the top. Needless to say, I made it to the top before him. I took a breather for about 30 seconds. At that point, the tractor and 1 car behind had passed me. The tractor was doing about 20mph on a false flat. I was able to catch up to them and drafted for a minute or two. About half way across the plateau, the car passed the tractor and I followed behind him. I usually do about 20mph on this leg of the ride, but I was able to lift it up to about 25mph for the last half of that stretch of road. I was really spent at that point. Fortunately, the remainder of the ride was primarily downhill. It was a gratifying moment.
Another notation, I forgot to mention that my hips, mostly my left was aching when I reached Boss Hogs and then-some for the remainder of the ride till the summit of CVR.
