Today was a great day to get out. It was a bit on the cold side, but sunny, winds from the North West. Perfect for today’s ride. I wore the standard winter kit, minus long gloves and toe covers. The legs felt pretty good to start. I made it to the summit of OTR in good average time. I took a few moments to recover when I reached the top. The Banducci Wall had traffic mitigation, so I wasn’t able to get into zone mode. I was on high 6 O’clock alert. It was more of the same to the summit. I was doing moderate tempo most of the way. After reaching the summit, I pulled over to take a few moments to recover. I let traffic by and then headed down the mountain. The trek through the farmlands was the usual chore. I kept the tempo moderate or less. I don’t recall the time to Boss Hogs, but I am guessing it was around 1:02-ish hours, plus or minus. The last climb went well. I stayed within myself. No red-lining it. I kept my tempo going over the top. After cresting the summit, I decided to pull over and feed. That took a few minutes. After munching on a Clif Bar, I got back on the road. Route 202 had no traffic mitigation. The descent off OTR was mostly fun and games. My morale was feeling good at this point. I pushed over Mariposa and then shut it down at the top of Weston.
Concentration was good. Perhaps a bit impatient here and there. I was in the zone most of the time with minimal lapses or gremlins (worth mentioning). Ailments were minimal. I had some upper left calf soreness as I was making my way back. I let up a bit and adjusted my pedaling technique. It eventually went away. Balance and form felt good. Nutrition was good. I went through most of my sport drink and half my water. I decided to feed a Clif Bar at the top of the last climb. Gear worked flawlessly. Other notes, no cyclists out there today.
