Today's weather was a balmy 75-80 degrees. Winds from the North West. Before I get into the ride, I should note that I hit my knee against a cabinet. It bruised my knee pretty bad, but it doesn't appear to be a significant injury. I put it on ice in the later part of the day. When I woke up, it was sore. As to be expected since it has been still while sleeping. I was real skeptical how far I would go today. I was thinking, OTR and back. Turns out that, upon, departing, my knee felt comfortable. I was able to put full weight on it. So, that being said, I continued to OTR. I reached the end and my knee continued to feel good. So, I decided to do the complete ride. My legs felt good while riding on Highline, I kept the pace nice and moderate, continuously thinking of conserving energy for the last half of the ride. When I reached the final few miles till returning to Banducci, I felt good and continued up the Banducci climb. I was pushed near my limit over the top, but was able to recoup and make it to the top without putting myself into the red. When I reached the summit of Banducci, I had to make a decision. To scout the road to Bear Valley, or turn around. At that point I had about half my provisions. I decided to commence. Upon making that decision, I ate half of my power bar, took on some fluids and shortly after, continued via the downhill. It was a welcome reprieve, and I was able to make it to Bear Valley road with enough energy to complete the ride. At that point, though, my provisions were near consumed. Bear Valley Road was a bit more challenging than I had anticipated. It starts out about 3-4%, then kicks up to about a max of 7% or so. It went on for about a mile or two before reaching the entrance of Bear Valley. I stopped at the entrance and turned around. I Made my way to the last climb. Upon reaching the base of the climb, I ate the last half of the power bar. I think I had about 5 sips of fluids left in the bottles, so I had to dose my efforts accordingly. I did moderate tempo to the summit. At the summit, I made no extra effort. I just wanted to make it to the top without expending too much energy. At that point, it was mostly downhill, through rolling terrain, so I was clear of any dehydration/exhaustion danger. My ailments consisted of numbness in the hands, general soreness in the lower body. Stretching kept the general soreness in check. While changing hand positions mitigated the numbness. Concentration was real good. Those long ride state of mind feels nice and familiar. Balance was good, not great, but definitely above average. Gear is working well. I forgot to reset the Gopro SD card. In such, I ran out of storage when I noticed at the top of Banducci. I ended up resetting the card and put it in movie mode for the rest of the ride. I figured that there wasn't anything significant in the past half, so nothing lost. Another slight glitch is that when I shift, I feel a slight click in the chain or perhaps the cassette. I have to investigate on this more. The last time this happened, the chain had a link that was dislodging. Other than that, some slight creeks. Sounds like from the saddle at times. The wheels are working great, no complaints there.
