The weather has let up. They predicted rain, but the skies were mostly clear and temperature in the 50's. Winds from the North West. Perfect day for Keene. I've been riding indoors for more than 2 consecutive occasions now. It was great to be able to get out. Two days ago, I was having dinner with the folks. The chair I was sitting on broke and I hit the deck, flat on my bottom. Nothing got broken, but I did sustain a slight bruise. I was wondering how the body was going to respond in two respects, my bruised bottom and the lack of training out doors. Turns out that did very well. I wasn't injured on the sit-bones, so no soreness there. But I did feel some modest discomfort on the glutes. It diminished as the ride went on. I made it to the summit of the descent in good average time. I cruised the downhill. Mostly soft pedaling. I put in two digs on the risers. I wore my skull cap for the descent and took it off when I reached the base and headed back. The cool air felt good, and I had a generous tailwind. As I was making my way out of the gauntlet and up to the base of the Loop, I heard the train from down the below. I told myself, at that moment, "I bet I can beat that train to the tunnel". So, I kept the tempo high and made my way to the Loop Monument. I was able to see the train on the last part of the loop. But, I think I pipped it, just as I was making my way to the riser. Suffice it to say, I beat it by a few moments. From there, it was mostly steady tempo. Out of the saddle, frequently. I was keeping track of time. I was on par for what I normally do. When I reached the summit, I kept the tempo high and followed through over the top. Concentration was good today. No gremlins, few lapses. Balance and form felt good. Not great in some places though. Ailments, the left bruise on my glute, otherwise nothing worth mentioning. Gear worked perfect. No issues there. Other notes, no other cyclists. I saw two runners today.
