I wanted to get out for a ride today. It's cloudy and winds in the favorable direction for a WS ride. I wore the winter kit, minus the shoe covers, full gloves, and face mask. I think i got it right. I decided to bring my jacket at the last moment. I think I made the right choice. It's always difficult to gauge your fitness for the day, as more than half was going into the wind. I made it to the end of OTR in good average time. I headed out to WS. The wind was un-relenting. It was a game of patience. I knew I was going to be rewarded on the way back, with a generous tail-wind waiting. I got to the turn-around point. I was going to swap batteries on the GoPro, but I forgot to put an extra in the saddle bag. So, I headed back as planned. I spent the first 2 to 3 minutes to get the legs back up to speed. I think it took me half the time on the return leg on Highline. I put in a good effort over the last kickers. I knew the downhill was going to be a blast. And it was! I topped out, nearing 43 MPH. As I was descending at full speed, my keys flew out of my jacket pocket. (I forgot to zip it up from when I stopped at WS). So, I stopped, turner around and looked for it on the side of the road. It flew into the brush, so it took a while to find it. Suffice it to say, I found them and then headed back (with a sigh of relief). The remainder was mostly fun and games. Overall, it was a hellish ride, with the cold weather and strong winds. Concentration was good. Few lapses. Ailments, next to none. Maybe some mild outer knee soreness on the left leg. Balance and form felt good. Gear worked great. The GoPro lasted about 1:40 hrs today. a 10 minute improvement from before. Other notes, no cyclists today.
