Wow! The weather has cooled off. I got out a bit later than normal, but the temperature was perfect. In the upper 60's, winds from the North West. Perfect for a Keene ride. I wore the standard summer kit with my new jersey. I really like this new jersey. It is very compliant and doesn't flap or wiggle in the back pockets. I made it to the summit of the descent in good average time. I cruised the downhill. I reached the base in good average time. When I reached the base, I spared no time and headed back. The first mile or two was mostly patience. Letting the climbing legs warm up. After making it through the gauntlet, the legs were sufficiently warm. The cool air helped a ton and so did the tailwind. I was in the sweat spot most of the time. The morale was good. After the second dip, the morale got even better. I was staying distracted by listening to music and I had a few things to think about. I was stretching on the bike where permitted. I kept my tempo going over the top, guessing how many songs it will take to reach the summit. I was near max going over the top. I took a few moments to recover on the bike after cresting the summit. Shortly after, I made my way to OTR. I was able to hold a good pace. The legs were responsive and the morale continued to be good. After making it to the summit, I turned around and headed back home. I was going to keep track of time to return after reaching the summit, but I totally forget to check the time when I go there. Nevertheless, the metrics shows that I made it back in about 15 minutes. Compared to about 24 minutes to make it to the top of OTR from home. On the return, I pushed over Mariposa and made my way back to the top of Weston where I shut it down.
Concentration was good. I was in the zone, the morale was good, and I had stuff to think about. The music helped too. Balance and form felt real good. Nutrition was good. I drank all of my sport drink and some water. Ailments were minimal. Just the usual hand soreness. Gear worked flawlessly. There's still mystery clicks. I am going to service the crankset before Peggy gets here. Will see what that does. Other notes, no cyclists out there today. No spectators at the Loop Monument either.
