Great weather. In the low 60's. Winds somewhat turbulent today. The legs felt pretty good from the start. I had a tailwind all the way up Banducci. Didn't take much to get warmed up. Made it to the end of OTR in good average time. Banducci felt good. I was within my limits. After reaching the summit, I pulled over for a few moments. I let the traffic go by, then headed downhill. As I was descending, the wind shifted into a headwind. That meant, I would have a tailwind on the way back. The way I prefer. I made my way down the mountain, practicing my tuck. The trek to SS was the usual slow grind into the wind. About half a mile past Pelliser, on my way to SS, I noticed a cyclist behind me, about 1 or 2 minutes back. I was trying to gauge his/her progress. I made my way past the SS entrance. Took a look back, he was still there. I put in my mind, "just ride". I made my way up the back entrance climb. Took another look back. I didn't see him. The descent into SS was a blast. Tucking and reaching 40 MPH. I made it to the tunnel in about 1:02 hours. I took it easy, going through SS. As anticipated, the wind was on my back on the return leg. I kept the tempo steady. Kept my concentration going. The last climb went well. No heroics or digs over the top. Just steady tempo, nothing less than moderate. I pulled over, at the summit, to replace the GoPro camera battery. From there it was to Route 202, traffic mitigation and mostly fun and games to home. When I reached Mariposa, the wind had reversed again. So, I had a headwind on the way back from that point. Up to the last street, Weston, I had a nice tailwind going up the hill. Concentration was good. I kept my mind occupied when I felt bored. Ailments, next to none. Just exhaustion in the legs. Balance and form felt good. Gear worked flawless. I saw 4 or 5 cyclists today.
