The weather wasn't so great today. Clouds and cold. I had already set my sights on an indoor ride since yesterday. I prepared my gear last night so that I could hop on real quick. The reason being, I have an appt. to make at 1:30 PM. The map of the day was the Innsbruck. I chose the mountain loop. The start was about 5 minutes of strolling through town and then onto the climb. I started modest, waiting for the climbing legs to kick in. Eventually, I settled into a tempo of about 3-3.5 Watts/kg. Interesting, that ever since I started using the trainer tire, my wattage has slightly decreased. Nonetheless, I kept the tempo steady. I had to wipe of sweat and drink, which meant, I had to sit down. And everytime I sat down, The wattage went down in to the 2's. I was estimating how much climbing I had remaining about every 3 minutes. Trying not to look every second of the way. At about 7 minutes to go, the sweat started to stream. The legs feeling a bit more warmed up. With about 2 minutes to go, I put just a bit more power down. All the while, I noticed the trainer making this horrible creaking sound. I decided to wait till I got to the downhill section to see if I could remedy the problem. I ended up putting electric tape around the skewer nut and lever. After doing that, the trainer purred along with minimal noise. Such a better experience when you don't hear something that sounds like it's going to break any moment. The second lap felt good. I was warmed up, so I was in my rhythm from the bottom of the climb. I kept the same tempo. I was wondering if I would hold the same time or better. I was estimating my ETA like the previous lap. I think the second lap went faster (in my mind). I ended up missing my previous lap time by a few seconds. After that, I made my way down the mountain and kept easy tempo till I reached town and cooled down after that. Concentration was good. No lapses. Ailments were next to none. The palms felt good. Balance and form felt good. Gear worked flawless. I have to reinstall the shim for the trainer as it came loose. The electric tape quick fix worked like a charm. Other notes, there were about 1600 people on this map today. I made top 50 on the climb.
