It's raining out, so a good day to ride indoors. I chose the Watopia Mountain Route. Fitting, as I wanted to go to Keene today. Getting the gear ready went without a hitch. The legs were a bit heavy to start. I had to feed a Clif Bar before the ride because I was a bit light headed with a slight lacking in energy. After riding for the first 10 minutes I was good to go, but I was still feeling a bit light headed. I was doing in and out of the saddle efforts with power rating between 2.5 and 3.0 W/kg most of the time. It took a out 25 minutes for me to start sweating. I felt a log better when I got there. I finished somewhere in the top half or so when I reached the summit. No heroics today, just steady climbing without red-lining it. From there, I did the bonus climb. More of the same effort, just steady pacing while doing in and out of the saddle efforts. I was hydrating and wiping sweat while in the saddle. I felt good in the morale when I reached the summit of the bonus climb. From there, I headed back into town. It took a while to descend off the mountain, so I took the opportunity to stretch on the bike. I tried to keep the tempo going over the rolling terrain and I kept the power down while going through the sprint zone. (No heroics). Then I made my way to the start / finish. After crossing the finish, I commenced the cooldown for a couple miles or so. I let the HR go down to 112 BPM, and then ended the ride.
Concentration was good. Perhaps a hint of impatience. The first 40 minutes felt like a chore. I could tell that my body was struggling to get warmed up. Only after sweating did I feel my body and mind reach equilibrium and attentiveness. Difficult to describe. Balance and form was good. The shoes felt good. (This is the first time using them on Zwift). The position on the Madone feels different than the Emonda. So, I had to get used to it. It took about 20 or 30 minutes for that to happen. Nutrition was good. As mentioned, I was a bit light headed to start, so I fed a Clif Bar. I drank all of my sport drink and some water. Ailments were the usual hand soreness and numbness while digging out of the saddle. Otherwise, the body cooperated. Gear worked flawlessly. Other notes, there were about 9000 riders when I hopped on.
