The weather is great. I didn't have to get up super early. The temperature was just right when I got out the door. Winds from the North West. I wore the standard summer kit with a thick base layer and double arms. The legs felt good from the start. I made it to the top of OTR in good time. The Banducci Wall had some traffic mitigation, so I was looking all around while trying to stay concentrated. I recovered on the flat segment and then completed the climb. After reaching the summit, I took a few moments to recover. I fiddled with the GPS for a few seconds and then headed down the mountain. The descent was safe with no traffic from behind. The wind was not turbulent. The trek to the farmlands went as usual. No heroics, just steady tempo. After passing the front SS entrance, I took a few moments to stretch on the bike. I made my way around the backside and then onto the descent. I put in a good sprint, reaching 41 MPH while in the tuck. I stopped at the local park to take a quick bio and then got back on the road. I made it past the tunnel in about 1:02 hours. I stopped at the local mini-mart to mix a sport drink and then got back on the road. The return trip through the farmlands went quick. There was some traffic, so I was keeping an eye on my six. I passed Boss Hogs in about 1:24-ish hours. So, I gave up around 3 minutes on the return. The last climb went as planned. I was doing in and out of the saddle efforts to keep my momentum going. I kept the power down while going over the top. I stopped at the summit to feed a Clif Bar with some water. After that, I made my way to Route 202. Route 202 had some traffic mitigation, but it was mostly safe. I had to merge with traffic to make the left turn onto OTR. The descent off OTR was relaxing. Mostly soft pedaling and pushing a bit on the risers. I put in the effort over Mariposa and then to the top of Weston where I shut it down.
Concentration was good. I had some things to think about, the music helped, and the morale was good. I had minimal lapses and no gremlins worth mentioning. Nutrition was good. I had a bowl of oatmeal and some grapes for breakfast. I fed a Clif Bar during the ride. I drank close to two bottles of sport drink and some water. Ailments were minimal. Just the usual hand soreness. Gear worked flawlessly. I was able to service the crankset the other day. The bike road perfectly silent. So, the culprit was the crankset needing to be cleaned. Other notes, I saw two cyclists today.
