The weather has let up. It is now sunny, but still cold. Winds from the South East, but turbulent. I wore the standard winter kit. Arms, legs, head cap, face mask, thick base layer, jacket, shoe covers, and full gloves. The legs felt pretty good to start. I had a tailwind to the top of WTR. I made it there in good time. I cruised the downhill. No heroics. I put in two digs on the risers. A bit past the Lower Loop, the wind did a 180 and turned cold. I had enough clothing, so it wasn’t too bad. I made it to the base in good time. After reaching the base, I headed back without hesitation. The miles went quickly. I was paying attention to time and the landmarks. After making it past the Lower Loop, I was feeling better in the morale. More so after passing the dips. After the second dip, I guessed the number of songs required to reach the landmarks. It helped keep my mind focused. I kept the tempo going over the top. After cresting the summit, I took a few moments to recover on the bike and headed back home. I pushed to the top of Weston and then shut it down.
Concentration was good. I was in the zone most of the time. Minimal lapses and no gremlins worth mentioning. Balance and form felt good. Gear held up great. Although, I spotted some wire exposure for the front derailleur, so I have to repair it. I had no problems shifting. Perhaps I’ll put some protection on it until it can be repaired. Ailments were minimal. My hands were sore from time to time, especially while digging out of the saddle. Nutrition was good. I had a bowl of oatmeal, a banana and some grapes for breakfast. I ate a half of a banana before departing. I drank most of my sport drink, no water. Other notes, there were spectators at the Loop Monument on the way down and up. No cyclists.
