The weather is great, I had to get out before it was too late. I wore the standard fall kit. Double arms, knees, thick base layer, head cap, face mask around the neck and newspaper in the jersey. Winds were from the South East and temperature in the 60's. The legs felt good to start. I made it to the summit of WTR in good time. I cruised the downhill. It was fun having a tailwind. I put in two digs on the risers. A couple minutes before reaching the base, a cyclist was heading back. Looked to be my better. After reaching the base, I removed my head cap, face mask and newspaper in the jersey. Then I got back on the road, and it was non-stop from there. The legs felt pretty good. I was doing steady tempo, in and out of the saddle, while minding the headwind. After making it passed the Loop Monument, I was feeling better in the morale. I had to stay focused. Somewhere near the after the second dip and the bridge, my left inner hip started to complain. I had to adjust my tempo, cadence and in and out of the saddle position. The pain persisted for less than 5 minutes before it went away. I am not sure what brought it on. After reaching the summit, I took a few moments to recover on the bike, and then I headed back home. I pushed over Weston where I shut it down.
Concentration was good. I had stuff to think about. There were minimal lapses and no gremlins to speak of. Balance and form was good. Ailments were minimal. The worst being the left inner hip that dissipated after 5 or so minutes. That, and the sore / numb hands. Nutrition was good. I had a bowl of oatmeal and some grapes for breakfast and then some more grapes before the start of the ride. I drank most of my sport drink, no water. Gear worked flawlessly. Other notes, I saw one cyclist on his way up from Keene as I was on my way down. We crossed paths once more, as he seemed to have gone for another lap. There was no one at the Loop Monument today.
