A 25 miles of road, 4 miles of dirt riding and snow. Starting temps we're 34F made pavement frosty. As I rode south out if the low winter sun, the thermometer dropped more, 31F. The pavement ends at mile 13 of Tongass highway south and Beaver Falls. This is the trailhead to Silvas lakes and beyond. The first mile is steady steep maintenance road. The second mile the grade lessens as it nears the lake. Today, after the first mile, there was snow and ice that second mile all the way to the upper lake outflow. Trying to ride the second mile is almost impossible even in this low snow winter. Hoar frost at the lake was 2" tall. My water bottle froze and I fell only once. No issues. I took a little side street on my return just for fun.
