The weather is warming up. It’s supposed to get into the upper 80’s. Winds were from the South East. I got out as early as I could. I wore arms, knees, and a thick base layer. The legs felt pretty good to start. I made it to the summit of the descent in good average time. I cruised the downhill and put to digs on the risers. I made it to the base in good time. After making it there, I headed back up the mountain. I stopped at the Chavez center to remove some layers. I ended up removing my arm and knee warmers and put arm coolers (that I had stashed in my saddle bag) on. After that, it was non-stop climbing. This was one of the first days in the moderate heat. I had a headwind on the way back. It was cooling me off a bit, but also hindering my tempo. I focused on the landmarks and kept my mind occupied from impatience. After the second dip I was feeling better in the morale. I was feeling much better after reaching the bridge. I was near max going over the top. After cresting the summit, I took a few moments to recover and headed back home. I shut it down at the top of Weston.
Concentration was good. I had minimal lapses and my patience was in check. Balance and form was good. Ailments were minimal. Just the usual hand soreness. Nutrition was good. I had a bowl of oatmeal, and half a banana for breakfast. I drank all of my sport drink, no water. Gear worked flawlessly. Other notes, I saw one familiar cyclist on his way back from Keene as I was nearing the bottom of the descent.
