Wow! What a great day for a ride. Probably a 1 in 30 or 40. There was almost no wind today, such a rarity! The temperature was in the upper 60s low 70s. I wasn't sure whawt to expect. The wind started as a northerly wind. As the ride progressed, the wind subsided. My legs felt pretty good from the start. It didn't take much time to get fully warmed up. By the time I reached route 202, I was ready to rock n roll. I climbed banducci in moderate tempo, keeping in mind what was ahead. I didn't know if the wind was going to pick up on the SS side. Turns out that it was calm. Given the weather condition, I decided to put an extra effort to see what time I could put down. I reached the summit of Banducci in about 36 minutes. I bit better than average. I reached the entrance of SS in about 46 minutes and the tunnel in about 56ish minutes and out of SS in about 1 hour. Because there wasn't much of a wind condition, I knew that I wasn't going to be blistering down the farmlands. But I was going about as fast as I was on the way out. The way back was no less than moderate tempo. Mostly high. I rarely pushed 25 mph, but I knew that it was going to be a high average speed. I did high tempo up CVR. I made two digs, SS and CVR summit. Once I reached the summit of CVR I recovered and resumed the high tempo till I made it back home. Concentration was average. I met some nasty gremlins around SS and I couldn't shake them for a while. I was jinxed for at least 15 minutes before I came around and regained my focus. Ailments consisted of some mild numbness in my right hand and deep tissue soreness in the hips. None of which were serious enough to merit a decrease in tempo. Balance was good. My legs were on top of the pedals and synced nicely. Gear is working well. The charity and fitness apps worked well on my smartphone. All other gadgets and bike were flawless. Other notes, given that my current GPS device is having problems retaining its charge, I ordered a new Garmin Edge 810 with a trade in discount. ETA, tomorrow. It's supposed to be able to sync with my smartphone for various purposes. Will see how that goes.
