At my beach campsite this morning I took a photo with the man who was chatting to me the night before. I then started the simple ride to Sapporo. First stop was Otaru, a town I that was recommended to me highly. It has a beautiful canal running through it. However, today was scorching hot. I stopped for lunch there, but didn't do too much sightseeing, just mostly cycled through. As I got closer to Sapporo, I heard an instrument. There was a man across the road playing some kind of brass instrument to his sleeping dog. I decided to cross the road and ask if I could listen. As I approached, his big labrador got ecstatic and started bounding over to me. His dog then wanted to see my bike, and this old guy was doing spin moves trying to pull his leash in a losing game of tug of war. After apologising for ruining the mood, I asked him what he was playing and he happily told me the soprano saxophone. Unfortunately he had to stop playing because his dog was now going berserk, but we had a really nice chat. From there I headed into Sapporo where I was staying at Guesthouse Yasube. The guy absolutely speed ran the hostel introduction and I got a cheap coffee from him (it's also a coffee roaster/cafe) for ¥300. It was delicious.
