It was the first big ride for Melinda's new MTB and it almost didn't happen. She had some problems with the dropper post not staying up and then the cable was stuck so she couldn't put the post back into the frame. Luckily, she managed to get the cable out of the way but, detached so, although she didn't have a dropper, she could at least ride it. Really we were overbiked for this ride but Melinda's been off the bike since basically before the holidays so we wanted to ease back in and just have fun. It was another beautiful summer winter's day. Clear blue skies. Shorts and short sleeves - until Purisima Creek and at the end. And seeing the sunlight turquoise of the ocean always brings me joy. Got to christen the new bike, and ourselves, with a muddy Purisima Creek Trail. On the way up Higgins Purisima, a guy passed us and I played my game to see guess how far ahead I could let him go and still catch him. It looked like I let him go too far but decided to go for it anyway. I had a pretty good sprint considering I was on the MTB. Near the top, I started to loose steam but I was so close to catching him, I didn't want to give up. I passed him about 10' from the top. I cheered and scared the guy because he didn't know I was behind him. We just caught Bob & Sonny at Dad's as they were finishing up. No chips or sweets but we went to Sweets for a nice ice cream sandwich. Afterwards, Melinda conquered the curb! Just go straight at it and let the suspension do the work. :) Crazy fun fact, her bike is a 2xs and mine is a S but we were able to swap bikes and they basically felt the same. Didn't really need to make any saddle adjustments and the reach felt pretty similar.
