The skies have cleared up, It's very cold out. Another day for the indoor workout. I decided on Innsbruck. I was hoping for London, but it wasn't the map of the day. I set out to do two laps on the course. First was mostly warmup and the second a negative split. I had the fan turned off so that my body would warmup first. After about 5 to 10 minutes into the first climb, I had to hop off the bike and turn on the fan. So, I lost about 10 to 15 seconds there. No worries for me because I was looking for a good warmup as opposed to posting a good time. The climb went as planned. I don't think there's much of a reprieve. I think the gradient stayed above 2% until reaching the summit. I was out of the saddle most of the time. In the saddle to recover, hydrate and wipe sweat. The legs felt good as were the lungs. I was pushing about 3W/kg consistently while out of the saddle. The HR was below 155 bpm. I posted 117th at the summit. I recovered on the downhill by soft pedaling and stretching on the bike. The second lap was for the books. I wanted to post a negative split. At least, that was the plan. The legs were warmed up as was the rest of the body. So, I was able to push it from the start. I was pushing over 3 W/kg most of the way up while out of the saddle. Around 2.8 W/kg while in the saddle. I'd say + or - 0.5 W/kg. The HR was over 150 BPM for most of the climb. I increased the tempo gently as the climb progressed. Interesting, that I was able to keep the wattages up while in the saddle. My right knee was showing signs of soreness, but never escalated. With about 2 minutes to go, I was putting down the power on the up and downstroke. I was at maximum with about 30 seconds to the summit. The HR was at 165-ish bpm. I reached the summit in about 28 minutes or so. Posting to 60 or 70. And, a negative split. So, the ride went according to plan. From there, I recovered on the downhill. I allowed the HR to recover slowly. Letting the body get back to norm in a controlled fashion. I made my way back into town and then cooled down for a few minutes before completing the ride. Concentration was good. The morale felt good. Balance and form was good. Gear worked flawless. The trainer feels real good with minimal noise. Ailments, mild soreness in the right knee. Last night my right calf was a bit sore. It has recovered to normal today. Some mild left hand numbness. Mitigated by sitting in the saddle and shaking it. Nutrition was good. So hunger signs. I had about 3/4ths of my Gatorade, no water. Other notes, there were about 3000 riders at the start of the ride.
