We decided yesterday to take the train to our next location, Chagny, because the forecast was for rain all day. Roy seems to be okay with riding in the rain, but I would prefer not to. It's also cold. As it happens, very little rain fell where we were. I'm still glad to have been out of the elements, sitting comfortably, and watching the world go by. Chagny's okay. You won't find it on anyone's list of world heritage sites. It has a large old church, so dark inside as to make the decorations almost invisible. The pride of the town is a series of sculptures by a local artist. There is a giant rooster, for example. In front of the church, there is another "sculpture" (maybe "oeuvre" would be better) by another artist. That oeuvre is an octagonal block of steel two meters high and 2.4 meters across, weighing 57 tons. There was an icy wind when we arrived. We found our hotel (more pf a b&b) without difficulty. The sign on the door informed us that the reception is closed from 11 to 3. We took refuge in a cafe and stretched lunch out as long as possible. With the relatively big lunch, we will dine in our room tonight. The menu is bread, pate, sausage, cheese, tomatos, and cola. Roy has been tinkering woth his bike. Something was causing his brakes to make a grinding noise. He replaced the pads, but still needs to get the cable adjusted right.
