I have 11 miles left to ride but I’m closing up my ride today because I don’t trust the Wi-Fi where we are going. I’m sitting at a bar and Grill in Great Bend where I have good Wi-Fi and food! We woke up refreshed and grateful for our stay at the church, and it was a beautiful, rain free ride today. Of course, because rain was forecast so we dressed for it! Powerful head and side winds though. I’ve never had to ride with my right hand pulling and my left hand pushing on my handlebar before! Many many miles of that. This cool airplane was basically a wind sock, it was fun to watch it turning with the wind. I got separated from the group early on this morning because of road closures and I took a 2 1/2 mile unpaved road which was very challenging. Basically wet sand with ponds in the middle of the road. At one point I chose the least ripple place in the water thinking it was the shallowest, and walked my bike across. Meanwhile the others were rerouted a northern route. I sure enjoyed the national wildlife refuge I rode through for much of my day, and my chocolate chip pancakes for breakfast at the Sunshine Cafe.😋 Very fun conversation with my Dutch waitress, extra special because I spent time in Holland. Oh these cows were so funny. They had the most enormous pastureland, but they were all huddled together in this one group along the fence, tightly bunched together! Usually when I ride I am listening to books and podcasts. Last year, on our 9-day trip I listened to through 4 1/2 books, this year it’s been ALL about music! It motivates me to ride hard, and gives me joy and purpose as I ride. Well I need to leave because it is almost 7:30, and I have an hour left to ride because of headwinds.
