I have a regret from today, second time that I neglected to check the route more carefully for myself before starting out. Last time I did this it cost me 17 additional miles. This time it cost me a route through the woods along a river. We had been told about a bike path from Hamilton to Missoula, and were focused on that.
But the path was very rough and the TransAmerica route option, a bit longer ride, was a picturesque, safer, peaceful route rather than straight up highway 93. If I had looked, I would’ve chosen it. If I had looked and shared that info, the others may have chosen it too.
I wasn’t confident enough in the bike path because there was no GPS to follow, so I followed the tail lights ahead of me and never even looked at the route for myself. I hate that! And I don’t want to live my life that way.
From there, our turn west from Lolo to Lolo Hot Springs was a beautiful and pleasant route.
We got here as it started to sprinkle and got everything electrical plugged in then headed across the highway to the Hot Springs. Literally 15 seconds after I got into the pool, we had to leave it for a few hrs because of lightning. So we walked to the café to wait it out. I wrote this while I have Wi-Fi here and am about to head back over, and ate waaay too much while waiting😬.
It’s all part of this adventure and the memories, I love it so much. But last night my dad asked if I’m about ready for it to be over, and I realized that I partly am. It’s hard to keep my clothes and belongings clean. Make that impossible. And I’ve carried a high stress level of independent decision-making and responsibility. The thought of getting back to comforts of home and the routine there sounds nice.
I am excited about heading over the desolation of Lolo Pass tomorrow, and seeing what that is like.
I do love the victories of working thru the challenges on this trip, I feel it building me.
Much love, Terri
