I didn't want to go out in the rain, so I waited... It rained on and off aand finally stop around 11 or 11:30 buut it was so wet I gave it some time to dry up. As I was going out to ride my sister was doing wash and we started to talk and 45 min went by and I still had to setup the bike, it seemed to take for ever but I did get out to ride and that's what counts. I started out slow but not by choice, I couldn't go much faster! The first 4+ miles was a struggle but finally going up a small 1/4 mile hill I loosened up and was able to get to a good riding pace. It helped that a ATV passed me and got me to pick up my pace, he took a semi parallel dirt road, so I tried to keep up with him and thought I did a good job until the road he was on went a different direction. Now that I was up to a good pace I decided to keep it for as long as I could. I get to 4 mile circle, 8 miles into ride and could feel the burn in my legs. It was all good, it was time to work on this late dark night adventure. Traffic was low making it a even better ride with one less thing to constantly manage. It seemed like it was my night to run over every rock, bolt and other debris that was on the shoulder, I thought that one of these things would cause me get a flat. As I was getting close to the turn around it got very misty making it hard to see, I had to lower my goggles to see. With 10 miles to go, the burn was getting intense. I figured I would work 6 more miles then take it easy the last4 miles. I upped the power output and y HR went up some more but it's still much lower than it was 3 months ago. I finally get to turn off with 4 miles to got... I decide to work the last 4 miles into a small headwind, my HR climbed a little higher, I was determined to get the most out of this ride especially before the rain was to return. I was pretty soaked at this point, I was riding in zones 3 and 4. Slowly one by one the miles came melted away and I was coming up the last mile of decent roads, when I would need to slow for the rough roads, it is too dangerous during the day much less at night. The last 2 miles were tough and I was teetering on the edge of cracking, I was determined to finish strong! Now with less than 1/2 mile to go I had to get serious and before I knew it was over, with just the semi 3/4 mile cool down. The great adventure was over and I was very happy the ride was a success1 Be safe out there, enjoy your ride.
