The weather is nice and cool. The sun is out, about 50 degrees. I wore my long sleeve thermal jersey, knees, head cap, thick base layer and some newspaper. It was a bit chilly, but once I got warmed up, I was good to go. The wind was mild, from the North West. I made it to the top of the descent in good average time. I cruised the downhill. I put in to digs over the risers. The pavement was a bit damp in some places, but no ice or snow. There was some salt on the ground. I made it to the base in about 28 minutes. Once there, I spared no time and headed back up the mountain. I was debating on removing the newspaper layer, but decided to keep it on. The legs felt good. I was able to settle into a comfortable tempo doing in and out of the saddle efforts. While I was making my way back up, I noticed a strange squeaking noise. I thought it was something rubbing. I stopped once to try and figure out what it was. I checked the Di2 cable, debris, etc. It happened only when I was in the saddle. I decided to ride it out and wait till I reached the summit for further investigating. The climb went quick. I adjusted the saddle tilt up by about 1 degree. It feels better. Perhaps a half degree upwards would make it ideal. My knees felt much better. The right ball of the foot was hinting at soreness in a few places, but never escalated. The right inner glute feels better. After reaching the summit, I took some time to inspect the strange noise. It sounded like a chirping bird. I suspected that it was one of the cleats. I clipped out of my left pedal and sprayed water on the cleat. From there on forward, the noise was gone. Perhaps I need to wash it out of debris.
From there, I headed back home.
When I reached the top of Weston, I shut it down. Concentration was good. I was in the zone most of the time. Balance and form was good. Ailments were minimal. Some hand soreness. Hinting soreness in the right ball of the foot and right calf. None of which escalated, but was notable. Gear worked flawless. Nutrition was good. No hunger signs. I went through most of my Gatorade. No water. Other notes, I saw 3 cyclists today.
Other notes, It seems, the HR sensor is a bit off.
