The weather is great! In the 60’s. Winds from the North West. A good day to go to SS. The legs felt good to start. I made it to the summit of OTR in good average time. The Banducci Wall had some traffic mitigation. Thus, I was on high alert. The remainder had a bit less traffic, but I was always watching my six. I didn’t bother to check my time to the summit. Likely good average. After making it to the summit, I took a few moments to recover. I hydrated, let traffic by and headed down the mountain. I was being cautious. There was more traffic than usual, so no point in making things dangerous. After reaching the base. I headed to SS. Doing moderate tempo most of the way. I made it to the backside and headed into town. I put in a good sprint on the descent. Reaching over 37 MPH and coasting to over 41 MPH. Suffice it to say, it was a treat! I made it the tunnel in about 2:05 hours. I zipped through town and made my way back to the farmlands. The wind was mostly tail or cross tail. I stopped once at the porta potty lot to bio. I mixed a batch of powder drink while I was at it. I checked the GoPro battery. It was at 37%. That took me by surprise. I have to take a look at the footage to see if the battery depleted before finishing the ride. I didn’t hear any beeping noises from that point on. Shortly after, I got back on the road and made my way to the last climb. I reached Boss Hogs in under 2:30 hours, if I remember correctly. I gave up about 3 to 4 minutes on the return, not too bad. The last climb went as normal. I was doing moderate to good tempo most of the way. I kept the tempo going over the top. The false flat was mostly recovery, but mostly moderate tempo and of course the grind up the hill to Route 202. Route 202 had some traffic mitigation. I had to ride in the gutter to avoid traffic. I made it safely to OTR. The descent off OTR was fun and games. There was a car behind me since Route 202. I was pushing a bit more than normal. Mostly I the drops putting the power down. Lots of fun. I pushed over Mariposa, made my way back to Weston and shut it down at the top.
Concentration was good. Some lapses here and there, but nothing too worrisome. Route 202 had some gremlins. Balance and form was good. Ailments were minimal. Some hand numbness. The right knee was hinting on tenderness since the start of the ride, but subsided and never escalated or detracted from the ride. Gear worked flawless. Other notes, I saw at least 8 cyclists today. The most thus far, this year.
