The weather was supposed to get into the 90's today, so I got out as early as possible. I think I stayed in bed about 20 to 30 minutes more than I anticipated. Turns out I got out at the right time, temperature and sleepiness wise. The legs felt pretty good to start. I didn't have such a sleepy head going into the ride, so that was good for the morale. I made it to the summit of OTR in good average time. The Banducci Wall had some traffic mitigation, so I couldn't find that Zen as I normally can. I was near max but had matches to burn going over the top. The remainder of the climb was more of the same. After reaching the summit, I pulled over to recover, I made it there in about 40 minutes. I let traffic by and then headed down the mountain. It was mostly safe without traffic from behind. After reaching the base, I made my way through the farmlands and to SS. It felt like I had a modest tailwind because I was traveling faster than normal. Suffice it to say, the wind was calm at this time of the day. As I was approaching the climb around the backside, I took a few moments to stretch while on the bike. After making it to the rear entrance of SS, I made my way into town. I put in a sprint on the descent, reaching speeds nearing 40 MPH while in the tuck. I stopped at the local park to bio. The water faucet was turned off, so I used my bottled water to rinse my hand. I had enough provisions to get me home, so it wasn't an issue. I made my way through the tunnel in about 1:03 hours. I stopped once to take photos of an event going on. I stopped another time to mix my sport drink at the local mini-mart. (I brought a third bottle of water for this purpose). Shortly after, I got back on the road and made my way exiting SS and onto the farmlands. The farmlands was mostly moderate tempo. I made it to Boss Hogs in about 1:27-ish hours. So I gave up 4 minutes on the return. I stopped just before the last climb to swap out the GoPro battery. I got back on the road and completed the climb. I kept the tempo steady, doing in and out of the saddle efforts. I kept the tempo going over the top. The legs were a bit fatigued at this point. I was able to recover on the false flat. I stopped once to take photos of the local sheep. Route 202 had some traffic mitigation. I let traffic by from behind and made my way back to OTR. Descending off OTR was mostly fun and games. I pushed over Mariposa and to the top of Weston.
Concentration was good. My patience was in check. I had a few things to think about. The morale was on the positive side. Balance and form was good. Ailments were minimal. The usual hand soreness / numbness, some sit-bone discomfort, and the usual sense of fatigue in the legs. Nutrition was good. I drank about 1 and half bottles of sport drink and some water. I thought I was getting hunger signs, but it subsided after drinking more of the sport drink. Gear worked flawlessly. I forgot to change the battery in the power meter, so no power metrics today. I adjusted my cleats before departing. I decreased the heel in travel. Other notes, I saw about 3 cyclists today (give or take) and some runners. Apparently there was some sort of sporting event going on in SS. I saw a bunch of cars with mountain bikes on racks.
Other notes, looks like I did get power metrics. At least till I was finished going through SS. When I was looking at the GPS, the power and cadence readings were at 0.
