Somewhat of an interesting day today. Starting with the weather, my smartphone showed around 57ish degrees, and when I peaked outside, the wind was from the south. I wore a base layer, knees and arms. Turned out that it was warm enough to take off my knees and arms. I did that at the end of OTR. Luckily, I was able to stuff my garments in my rear pockets. Otherwise, I would have stuffed them in my jersey. As the ride progressed, I noticed that the winds had reversed directions by the time I made it to the top of Banducci. My initial plan was to do the abridged ride. But, given the wind change, I decided to add the SS loop. My legs were heavy pretty much all the way to the end of OTR. By the time I made it to the top of Banducci, I felt a lot better. I did good tempo from the bottom of Banducci, over the summit and through the farm lands. I had good legs at that point and was able to give a good dig over the summit of SS. I noticed I was doing good time when I reached the golf tunnel well under 1 hour. I did strong tempo when I made the right turn out of SS and all the way home. I reached Boss hogs in around 1:18ish. Again, on good pace. I kept the pace up and continued to push over the top of Cummings Valley climb. My ailments consisted of some minor sharp pains in the calves that lasted a few seconds when I was in the SS loop. Nothing significant. The other ailment happened at the base of the last climb, my right knee got a bit sore, but lasted only 2-3 minutes. I wasn't expecting to do a sub 1:50. I thought, maybe a 1:55 after the slow start and not having done this ride in over a week, if not two or three. To my surprise, I did it in under 1:50. Fantastic! My concentration was right on. I had good focus looking down the road and gauging my efforts to near perfection. Balance was also good, I did some alternating in effort between my left and right legs. Gear is working well, but that annoying creaking noise when I'm out of the saddle has come back. When I was at the end of OTR, I reseated the rear wheel. That helped a bit, but the squeaking started to come back on the last 20 minutes of the ride. Although not as significant as in the earlier parts of the ride. The gopro was stopped when I arrived home, not sure why. Perhaps the cold? Other notes, there was another cyclist when I made the left on OTR, return. He looked like a pro, or at least a cat 1,2. Will see if more come out this year.
