The weather has cooled off a bit. I ended up putting on knee and arm warmers with a cap and a thick base layer. The legs felt pretty good to start. I made it to the end of OTR in good average time. The Banducci Wall had some traffic mitigation, so I was on high alert. I was near max going over the top. The remainder of the climb was more of the same. Some traffic mitigation while doing no less then moderate tempo. I made it to the summit of Banducci in good average time. I took a few moments to recover, let traffic by and then headed down the mountain. The descent was mostly safe. I was able to let the wheels roll. The trek to SS went well. I was doing around 18 MPH most of the way, so it went quick. After passing the front entrance, took a few moments to stretch and recover while riding. I made my way around the backside and to the descent into town. I put in a good sprint, reaching 40 MPH in the tuck. I stopped at the local park to bio and then got back on the road. I reached the tunnel in about 1:04 hours. So, I was doing pretty good time. I think I stopped near the skate park to swap out the GoPro battery. I stopped at the local mini-mart to mix a powder drink with my extra bottle of water. (I forgot to re-start the GoPro, so I lost about 30 minutes of footage). Shortly after, I got back on the road. The return through the farmlands was mostly a game of patience. The wind was mild and slightly in my favor. I reached Boss Hogs around 1:29-ish hours. The last climb went quick. I kept the tempo steady, no less than moderate. I pushed over the top. I recovered while making my way to Route 202. When I got there, I let traffic by and then made my way to OTR. It was safe, no traffic from behind. The descent off OTR was mostly fun and games. I pushed over Mariposa and the dig to the top of Weston where I shut it down.
Concentration was good. Few lapses, minimal gremlins. I was in the zone most of the time. Patience was in check. Balance was good. Ailments were minimal. Some hand numbness while grinding out of the saddle. Some mild inner quad soreness that never escalated. I think the knee warmers were a bit restrictive, so I'll have to lower them on the next ride. Gear worked flawlessly. I got lucky when I noticed the Velcro strap on the saddle bag was loose. I caught it in time and stopped to re-secure it half way down OTR. Nutrition was good. Minimal hunger signs. I went through most of my sport drinks with a bit left over. Minimal water.
Other notes, I saw two or three cyclists. A casual cyclist and a couple runners.
