The weather is great. A bit cold, but clear skies. The wind was going the opposite direction, so I decided to go to WS. I wore the standard winter kit, minus the face mask (that I stashed in my saddle bag). The legs felt pretty good to start. My left hip is a bit sore, but got better as the ride progressed. I made it to the summit of OTR in good average time. The trek to WS was going into a headwind. I kept the tempo steady, no heroics. As I was around 2 miles from the turn-around, I was thinking of adding Banducci. I played it by ear. After making it to the turn-around, I headed back without hesitation. I had a nice tailwind on the way back. That's the reason I chose WS. On my way back, I was feeling good so I decided to add Banducci. I pushed over the Highline summit and made my way to Banducci from there. The Banducci Wall had some traffic mitigation. I was near max going over the top. I took a few moments to recover before the next climbing section. When I got there, I was putting in good tempo most of the way to the summit. I had a tailwind, so it felt good! When I reached the summit, I took a few moments to recover, let traffic by and then headed back down the mountain. It was mostly safe. The wind was steady, so I wasn't getting bumped around. I let traffic by as best I could. Descending off the Banducci Wall felt mostly safe. There was traffic from behind, so I was trying to be mindful of them. After making it back to OTR, I swapped the GoPro battery and then headed back home. I pushed over Mariposa and a modest dig to the top of Weston where I shut it down.
Concentration was good. The good weather helped the morale. I was in the zone most of the time. Balance and form felt good. Ailments were minimal. Some minor hand numbness here and there. My left hip was sore to start but got better as the ride progressed. Nutrition was spot on. No hunger signs. I fed half a banana and perhaps a few grapes before the start of the ride. I drank most of my sport drink, no water. Gear worked flawlessly. Other notes, I saw 3 cyclists today.
