Today's weather was great. I had lab in the morning so I got out a bit later than usual. Today was the second day with the new wheels and all is good. The only tiny snag is that freewheeling was louder today than yesterday. I'm not sure whey, perhaps the wide open streets have something to do with it, or perhaps the wind conditions. Either way, the noise is acceptable. My legs felt good going out the door. I didn't have to do much to get fully warmed up. When I hit the first kicker on OTR, I had to gun it because there was a car behind. My heart jumped to about 160bpm at the top. When the car passed, I slowed down to a crawl, recovered and commenced. I had a bit of a headwind on the last 1/3 of OTR, my pace was slow, but understandable due to the wind. I did moderate tempo for most of Banducci, wanting to save a bit for the last half of the ride. I reached the summit in good time, well under 38 minutes. I arrived at SS tunnel in about 58 minutes or so. On my way, I bumped the tempo to good. but not high. I was a bit winded when I reached the top of SS. I recovered just as quickly. The return trip was enjoyable as I had a tail-wind most of the way back. I reached Boss hogs in under 1:20 hrs. I felt good at that point, but my legs were beginning to feel just a bit heavy. Somewhat uncharacterstic at this point in the ride. I had 2 glasses of gatorade before departure, but I think I should have fed solids. Either way, I dosed my efforts accordingly, taking on the last bit of Gatorade before the end of the CVR climb. I was doing moderate to good tempo at that point. Ailments included soreness in the lower back, which was mitigated by stretching. I have some mild soreness on the sit bones, will have to keep on eye on that, otherwise I may be forced to make a trip to the Dr. When I reached route 202, I took a 1 minute breather. My legs came around after that, very little soreness from that point on. Gear is working well. As mentioned, the new wheels feel real good. Otherwise, there's a bit of creaking, but not from the wheels. I'm not sure if this is as good as it's going to get. But, I might as well do some more investigating. I think for my next ride, I want to do Willow Springs, then the farm-lands, and then follow the route outlined in the Gran Fondo ride. I'm guessing the road will take me directly to Bear Valley.
