It’s a great day to get out. It’s in the 60’s. Winds from the North West. Perfect for a SS ride. I wore the standard summer kit. The legs were ok to start. I made it to the summit of OTR in good average time. The Banducci Wall had some traffic mitigation, so I wasn’t able to settle into a steady tempo. I did the best I could. More of the same to the summit. I made it to the summit in good average time. After making it to the summit of Banducci, I took a few moments to recover. I let traffic by and then headed down the mountain. It was mostly safe. There was traffic from behind as I was nearing the lower slopes. I did my best to stay calm and concentrated. After making it to the base, I made my way to SS. The trek to SS was mostly steady tempo. I was going into a headwind at that point. I stretched a bit while on the bike before the start of the climb to the backside of SS. After making it to the top, I took a few moments to recover. I put in a good sprint on the downhill. Reaching over 41 MPH. I thrill, no doubt. I stopped at the local park to take a quick bio and then got back on the road. I made it to the tunnel in about 1:06 hours. So, about average time. I stopped at the mini mart to fill bottles with the water I was carrying in my saddle bag. I forgot to bring an extra baggie of powder drink. I realized this early in the ride. I was a bit concerned, but I figured I could make it back on water and a Clif Bar. Worst case scenario, I would have to buy something from the Mini Mart. I ended up topping off the bottles, drinking the remainder in the extra bottle and then got back on the road. Turned out to be plenty and I had no hunger signs after that. The return trip through the farmlands was mostly steady tempo. I had a nice tailwind, so it was enjoyable. I made it to Boss Hogs at around 1:28 hours, I gave up about 2 minutes on the return, not too bad. The last climb was mostly moderate and above tempo. I kept the tempo going over the top. After making it to the summit, I pulled over to feed. I fed a Clif Bar with water and my sport drink. I got back on the road after feeding. Route 202 had traffic mitigation, so I let traffic by before descending to OTR. I had to sprint to the left hand with traffic from behind. It was mostly safe. The descent off OTR was mostly fun and games. I pushed over Mariposa and then the dig to the top of Weston where I shut it down.
Concentration as good. Patience was mostly in check. I had few lapses. There were hints of gremlins out there, otherwise nothing worth mentioning. Balance and form was good. The shoes feel good. Nutrition was good. I fed a banana, grapes and some apple sauce before the start of the ride. That held me over plenty. Ailments, the usual hand soreness and numbness while digging out of the saddle. Gear worked flawlessly. The front brake continues to rub ever so slightly. The left lever has to be pressed more then the right. I’m not sure why, yet. Other notes, no cyclists today.
