Today was the last day for the "Spring into Action" competition. So, I decided to put in a good ride. They predicted warm weather, so I got up early. It was around 70 degrees, plus or minus, when I got out. Winds from the North West. The legs felt pretty good to start. I made it to the summit of OTR in good time. A few minutes into the ride, I realized that I forgot to bring an extra baggie of powder drink. So, the plan was to drink half of what I had in my sport drink bottle and then switch over to water. Then, fill the sport drink bottle back to full and remainder into the bottle of water. (I remembered to bring a third bottle of water, so I wasn't too worried. The Banducci Wall had some traffic mitigation. I was listening for cars as I was making my way up. I recovered on the flat section and then made my way to the summit of Banducci. I made it there in good average time. I let traffic by and then headed back down the mountain. There was some traffic mitigation. I had a tailwind on the way down, so at least I wasn't delaying the commuters by much. As I was making my way down OTR, I heard a cracking noise after running over a bump. Turned out that the camera / GPS mount broke. I stopped to inspect it. It was a clean break. So, I swapped the speaker with the GPS for good measure. I was observing the mount as I was making my way to Keene. I made it back to the mail boxes in about an hour. At this point, I was getting bio signs. So, that was my next pit stop. In the meantime, I was careful not to run over any big bumps. I cruised the downhill to Keene. I let traffic by on one occasion. I put in two digs on the risers. I stopped for a quick bio and got back on the road. I don't recall checking the time to the base. Once there, I spared no time and headed back up the mountain. I stopped at the Chavez Center to feed and fill bottles with my extra water bottle that I had in my saddle bag. I took some video footage of the local train passing by while I was at it. After that, I got back on the road. The weather was warming up, but it was within my tolerances. The morale got better after each passing of the landmarks. I kept the tempo going over the top. After making it to the summit, I took a few moments to recover on the bike and then headed home. I put in a dig to the top of Weston and shut it down.
Concentration was good. I was a bit impatient to start and in some places too. Otherwise, my focus was there. Balance and form was good. Ailments were minimal. Some hand numbness on the climbs while digging out of the saddle. Nutrition was good. I was in no trouble by forgetting the extra powder drink. I fed a Clif Bar and went through about two full bottles, water and sport drink. Gear worked flawlessly, other than the breakage of the camera / GPS Blendr mount. Other notes, I saw two cyclists today.
