The spring weather is fantastic! In the low 70's, cool winds from the North West. Perfect for going to SS. I wore the standard summer kit. The legs felt good to start. I made it to the summit of OTR in good average time. The Banducci Wall had some traffic mitigation, so I was keeping my eyes open. I recovered on the flats and then finished the climb. I made it to the summit in average time. After making it to the summit, I took a few moments to recover. Then I headed down the mountain. I used on of the turn-outs to let a car go by. From there, it was non-stop descending till I reached the base. The trek to SS was moderate tempo. I had a slight headwind on the way out. I think the GPS mount slipped a fraction after riding over the water grate at the bottom of Banducci. I didn't bother adjusting it as it was a few milometers off. After reaching the entrance to SS, I took a few moments to stretch on the bike. Then I made my way around the backside. I recovered after making it there. I put in a sprint, but I botched the gear change. I hit the wrong button. I went to a smaller gear when I tried to go to a bigger one. A learning experience nonetheless. I reached over 40 MPH on the downhill. I stopped at the local park to take a quick bio. Then I got back on the road. I made it to the tunnel in about 1:06 hours. So, average. As I was making my way into town, I saw a crane with the American flag at the top. I knew something was going on. It turned out to be a car show. There were people showing off their muscle cars. Revving their engines that could be heard a block away. I stopped at the local mini-mart to mix some powder sport drink. Shortly after, I got back on the road. The trek through the farmlands was mostly moderate tempo. The streets are beat up, so I was having to use the whole road to find the least bumpy route. Top that off with traffic, it was not fun. My poor bike had to take extra abuse. I made it to Boss Hogs in about 1:09 hours. So, I gave up just 3 minutes on the return. The last climb went quick. I had a nice tailwind most of the way to the summit. I kept the power down going over the top. After reaching the summit, I pulled over to feed. I fed a Clif Bar with water and a bit of sport drink. (I was hoping to see the friendly goats, but they weren't there). After feeding I got back on the road. Route 202 had some traffic mitigation. I was sprinting to the OTR intersection. I made it there safely. The descent off OTR was enjoyable. The air was on the cool side. So refreshing. I pushed over Mariposa and made my way back home. I shut it down after the dig to the top of Weston.
Concentration was good. My patience felt better. I had minimal lapses and no gremlins to speak of. Balance and form was good. Ailments were minimal. Some minor hand numbness on the out of the saddle digs. Nutrition was good. I had a generous bowl of oatmeal before the ride. I fed one Clif Bar with some sport drink and water. It went down ok and I had no hunger signs after that. Gear worked fantastic. The clicking noises from the previous rides were not present. I cleaned and torqued the crankset yesterday. It took a couple hours, but proved its worth today. Other notes, I saw 5 cyclists today. 3 off in the distance and two approaching from the opposite side as I was climbing CVR. They seemed to be in good spirit. Likely the good weather to give credit.
