The Spring in to Action competition is over, so I wanted to put in a good ride but less in mileage. The weather is supposed to get into the 80's. I got up early so that I could depart before the heat settles in. I wore the standard summer kit with a thick base layer for good measure. (IE, just in case). I bought new socks. They are tall(er) socks than I normally wear. My first impressions were that they were too tall. I've decided that I will keep them for the colder months, but I won't order anymore soon. Nevertheless, I made it to the summit of the descent in good average time. I cruised the downhill and made my way to the base. I made it there in good average time. The climb went as planned. After warming up and letting the climbing legs to settle in, I was able to get into a steady tempo. I was doing in and out of the saddle efforts. The weather was a tad on the warm side, but got cooler as the ascent went along. I was feeling better in the morale as I passed the landmarks. I let the HR gradually rise through the duration of the climb. I was able to keep my momentum going over the top. After cresting the summit, I took a few moments to recover while on the bike. From there, I made my way back home. I pushed over Weston and shut it down at the top.
Concentration was good. Perhaps a bit of impatience. On a silly note, there's a pesky squirrel that's up to no good. Before the ride started, he was sitting under our car. I took some photos. I was a bit preoccupied in the first few minutes of the ride. I kept thinking that he might cause damage. After getting home, I checked things out. Everything seemed ok. Nevertheless, I was able to get into the zone for the better part of the ride. Balance and form was good. Ailments, the hand numbness as normal while climbing out of the saddle. Nutrition was good. I fed a few grapes before the start of the ride. Since I didn't take a nap after breakfast, my stomach was full at the start of the ride. Gear worked flawlessly. There is a slight mystery click that exhibits when I am out of the saddle on the down stroke of the right peddle. I'm guessing I need to tighten bolts. Other notes, no cyclists out there today. There was a man and a child at the Loop Monument was I was making my way down the mountain.
