The weather is beautiful. In the 60's, winds from the North West. I got up about 30 minutes than I would have liked. I wore the standard summer kit with a thick base layer and a head cap that I took off. The legs felt ok to start. I made it the top of OTR in good average time. The Banducci Wall had some traffic mitigation. I had matches to burn when I made it to the top. I recovered on the flat segment and then completed the climb to the top of Banducci. I made it there in average time. After letting traffic by, I made my way down the mountain. It was safe with no traffic from behind. Then the trek to SS. I was going into a headwind, so it was a bit of patience on that segment. After passing the front entrance, I took a few moments to stretch. Then I made my way around the backside. I put in a good sprint on the descent. I stopped at the local park for a quick bio break. Then I got back on the road. I don't recall the time to the tunnel, the metric shows around 1:09-ish. So, a slow first half. From there, I headed into town and to the mini-mart. When I stopped at the mini-mart, I mixed a sport drink with the powder and extra water bottle that I brought. Shortly after, I hopped back on the road. The trek through the farmlands went quick. I had a tailwind most of the way. I passed boss hogs in around 1:32-ish minutes, so I gave up around 3 minutes on the return. The last climb went quick. I kept the tempo steady while doing in and out of the saddle efforts. I kept the power down going over the top. After cresting the summit, I stopped to feed. I fed a Clif Bar. After that, I got back on the road and made my way to Route 202. I let traffic by and then made my way to OTR. Descending off OTR was fun. There was some traffic from behind, so I gave it a push. I did the dig over Mariposa and the dig to the top of Weston where I shut it down.
Concentration was good. I had a few things to think about, the music helped. The GPS didn't do the announcements. Not sure what the deal is there. Balance and form was good. Ailments were minimal. Just the usual hand soreness. Nutrition was good. I had a bowl of oatmeal and a few grapes for breakfast. I fed a Clif Bar, about two bottles of sport drink and some water. Gear worked flawlessly, other then the mystery clicks and the GPS not announcing. I practiced GPS issue as if I was doing the Spooktacular ride. Just pretending and seeing if the navigation worked. And, it did. Other notes, I think I saw two cyclists today and a recumbant cyclist as I was nearing completion.
