The weather has cooled off. I got up late. It was below 50 degrees when I managed to get up. Winds were from the North West. I had to decide what to wear for today's big ride. I left my jacket behind. I wore arm warmers over coolers, knees, head cap and some newspaper in the jersey. Turned out to be the perfect configuration. After having breakfast, I got my gear together and shoved off. I brought two extra bottles of water and sport drink for the Keene n Back leg. I stashed them in the locker with two Clif Bars. From there, I headed to OTR. The legs felt pretty good to start. I made it to the top of OTR in good average time. The Banducci Wall had some traffic mitigation, otherwise went as usual. I recovered on the flats and completed the climb. After reaching the summit, I pulled over to recover for a quick moment. Then, I headed down the mountain. It was mostly safe with just one car from behind as I was nearing the base. The Trek to SS was steady, moderate tempo. I stretched after reaching the SS entrance and made my way around the backside. I put in a good sprint on the downhill and stopped at the local park for a quick bio break. I made it through the tunnel in about 1:06 hours. I stopped again at the local mini mart to mix a powder drink. I hopped back on the road and headed back. The farmlands trek was pretty quick (in the mind). I kept the tempo steady, no heroics. I made it passed Boss Hogs in about 1:30 hours. So, I gave up just 4 minutes on the return. The CVR climb went as usual. I stayed out of the red-zone, doing mostly moderate tempo. I kept the momentum going over the top. I stopped at the summit to feed a Clif Bar with some water. Then I headed to Route 202. Route 202 had some traffic mitigation, so I let them by before making the left turn onto OTR. I was able to relax and enjoy the downhill. I pushed over Mariposa and headed back to the mail locker. Once there, I grabbed my extra bottles and two Clif Bars. I put the used bottles in the locker. Shortly after, I headed to Keene. I was going into a headwind, so I kept the tempo moderate at most. The downhill was mostly relaxing. I put it two digs on the risers. I was overdue for a bio break, so I was eager to get the bio stop that I usually do. After the quick bio, I headed to the base. After reaching the base, I stopped to adjust my clothing and headed back up the mountain. I stopped at the local Chavez Center to feed a Clif Bar with some water. I removed the extra newspaper in my jersey, stashed it in my saddle bag and then headed back up the mountain. The legs felt good with minimal soreness. I was doing moderate tempo with in and out of the saddle efforts. The miles went quick. I was listing to my music to stay focused. After reaching the Loop Monument, the morale began to rise. More so after reaching the second dip. I was keeping tabs on the legs and they felt good. I kept the tempo going over the top. After reaching the summit, I took a few moments to recover on the bike, and then headed to the mail locker to grab my stash. I pushed over Weston and shut it down.
Concentration was good. I had a nice bowl of oatmeal and some grapes for breakfast. I fed two Clif Bars with water during the ride. I drank about two and half bottles of sport drinks and about two and a half bottles of water. Ailments were minimal. Just the usual hand soreness. The knees felt good. The leg muscles were fatigued towards the last bit of the ride, but not too detracting. Balance and form was good. Gear worked flawlessly. The bottom bracket feels good. No noises today from the bike. She was super quiet. Other notes, I saw 2 cyclists going to Keene just as I finished the climb, and I think I saw one other cyclist out there. There was a casual cyclist, too.
