The weather has cooled off a bit. I had to decide what to wear. It was below 60 degrees when I left. I decided to wear the standard kit with a thick base layer, arms, knees, head cap, and sheets of newspaper in the jersey. That held me over perfectly. Winds were from the North West. The legs felt pretty good to start, but they needed to get warmed up. I made it to the top of OTR in good average time. The Banducci Wall had some traffic mitigation, so I was all eyes and ears to the top. I was near max when I made it to the top, but had matches to burn. I recovered on the flat and finished the climb. I was using the turnouts to let traffic by. After pulling over, I let traffic by, took a few moments to breath and then headed down the mountain. It was a safe descent with no traffic from behind. The trek through the farmlands was steady tempo, no heroics. I made my way around the backside of SS. I took a few brief moments to stretch before the climb into SS. As I was climbing, there was a motorcade of vintage VW cars. There were dozens of cars. I put in a good sprint on the downhill. I ended caught up to the motorcade. Turns out that there were some elk crossing the street, causing a traffic jam. I went to the front and waited for the animals to cross the road. Then I stopped at the local park to bio. I didn't bother checking the time at the tunnel, but the metrics shows that I made it there in under 1:05 hours. Better than I thought. I had to take a detour to get to the mini-mart because they closed one of the roads. When I made it to the mini-mart, I stopped to mix a powder drink. I got back on the road and to the farmlands for the return. There was a partial tailwind on the way back. The miles went quick. The metrics show that I made it to Boss Hogs in about 1:29 hours. So, I gave up about 5 minutes on the return. The last climb went well. I was doing mostly moderate tempo while doing in and out of the saddle efforts. I kept my momentum going over the top. I stopped at the summit to feed a Clif Bar. I got back on the road and made my way to Route 202. Route 202 had some traffic mitigation from behind, so I let them pass. Getting onto OTR from there was safe. Descending off OTR was fun and games. I pushed over Mariposa and the dig to the top of Weston where I shut it down.
Concentration was good. I was in the zone most of the time. Although, my patience needed a bit of coaching. I had minimal lapses and no gremlins worth mentioning. Balance and form was good. Nutrition was good. I had a big bowl of oatmeal with grapes for breakfast. Ailments were minimal. Just some minor hand soreness and the usual sensation of fatigue. Gear worked flawlessly. The new bottom bracket is due for delivery next week. Other notes, I saw two cyclists as I was feeding at the top of the CVR climb.
