Excellent temperature. In the low 70's. I got out a bit later than anticipated, but not so much. I got my new Speedplay pedals. I installed them before the ride started. My left Achilles heal was a bit sore in the morning and before departure. I felt the pain on a few occasions, but nothing too detracting. The legs felt average to start. I made my way through OTR and felt better by the end. Banducci went better than anticipated. When I reached the summit, I took a few moments rest, let the traffic by and then headed downhill. The descent was fun. I was picking safe lines and practicing the tuck. I had a tailwind to SS, as anticipated. I was guessing my time to the tunnel. I knew I was off the pace. I made my way through the back and down into town. I reached the summit in about 1:03 hrs. I cruised my way through SS. I spotted a bunch of deer in the front yard of a house. First time I've seen that in this area. I turned around to take some photos. After that, it was non-stop to the last climb. The trip back was enjoyable. I had a tailwind at this point. Doing mostly 18MPH+. I was calculating my time by Boss Hogs. I made it there at around 1:25 hrs. So, I gave up about 2 minutes since passing through SS. The last climb was mostly moderate tempo. I kept the momentum going. No digs over the summit. I pulled over one more time to swap out GoPro batteries. I headed back from there. Route 202 was a bit of traffic mitigation. From there it was fun and games. Conentration was average to start, got better on the last half of the ride. I was having to keep my mind occupied. I was doing the numbers and narrating the names of the streets along the route. Definitely helped. Ailments, I had some left hip soreness. Mostly mild. I'm wondering if it has to do with my cleat position. My Achile's heel was sore from the start, but never escalated or detracted that was worth noting. Balance and form felt good. Gear worked great. The speedplay pedals worked perfect. I got the new HR strap and it felt noticeably more comfortable than the other HR strap that I've been using for a while. Other notes, I saw 2 or 3 cyclists today. I think I crossed paths with one of them more than once. I spotted deer in SS. Photos taken.
