The weather continues to be on the warmer side. In the 60's, mild winds from the South East. I wore the standard fall kit. Arms, knees, thick base layer, head cap, some newspaper in the jersey for good measure. I got my new Knee warmers the other day and tried them for the first time. They worked perfectly. I didn't have to adjust them for the entirety of the ride. The legs felt pretty good to start. I made it to the top of OTR in good average time. The Banducci Wall had lots of traffic mitigation, so I was on situation alert. I was near max going over the top. I recovered on the flat segment and then completed the climb. The traffic persisted, so I was always checking around and using the shoulder to let traffic by. After reaching the summit, I took a few moments to recover. I let traffic by and then headed down the mountain. There was traffic from behind, so I was being extra cautious. After reaching the base, I was able to relax and let traffic pass me. The trek through the farmlands was as usual. There was a mild headwind on this segment of the ride. I took a bio break as I started to make my way back on Pellisier. I made it to Boss Hogs in about 1:01 hours and change. So, I gave up just one minute on the return. The last climb went as planned. I was doing moderate tempo most of the time. I kept the momentum going over the top. After reaching the summit, I stopped to feed a Clif Bar with some water. Shortly after, I got back on the road. The headwind persisted. Route 202 had some traffic mitigation. I let traffic by as best I could. I merged with traffic to make the left turn onto OTR. Descending off OTR was mostly fun and games. I pushed over Mariposa and the dig to the top of Weston where I shut it down.
Concentration was good. I did my best to keep my patience in check. I had minimal lapses and no gremlins to mention. Balance and form was good. Ailments were minimal. Just the usual hand soreness and triceps burn on the descent. Nutrition was good. I had a bowl of oatmeal, a banana and a few grapes for breakfast. I fed a Clif Bar with some water during the ride. I drank most of my sport drink. Gear worked flawlessly. Other notes, I saw one cyclist.
